Last year we saw Genshin Impact rocket up the charts and essentially dominate the global video-game markets for several months. It didn't last for very long, and while the game is still uber-popular, it will eventually fade into oblivion if it doesn't innovate or pull out some dumb gimmick.
However, despite this, it did prove that a no-name nothing developer and pretty awful game could do well in a super saturated market for more than just a meme's lifecycle. With that in mind, what are the odds that a company replicates the Pokemon magic and creates a game nearly identical in formula but for an older crowd and without all the shitty Pokemon gimmicks we're used to?
What could potentially dethrone Pokemon? Is it even possible? Are we all too attached to this IP to ever truly leave it for something else? Everyday I see fanart and ideas that I would have killed to see introduced long ago, but neither Nintendo, GameFreak, nor Creatures seems to have any interest whatsoever in this route.
