No clear reason that can be summed up in one brief sentence as to "why".
More of a crossroad of reasons, really, as there is a ton of Pokemon that one can like over the rest with a valid personal reason for it.
At first there is a design and individual premise. Not many designs are immediately likeable for me, but this one was.
Taking his entire family at face value without arguing which one needs to be avoided definitely helped and provided an interesting background that compliments such Pokemon.
And there is also this little precious milestone - Gallade might as well be the first character that I manage to like despite having fallen out of favour. Previously it always went along the lines of "start liking something - your preferation has fallen on hard times - Abandon ship, make for the escape pods - skip a good couple of years - rediscover and feel regret". Let's hope that this cycle will be broken with this single pokemon.
