Classic dragon design executed well at just the right time. Short, pot bellied, and not too cool, but cool enough in Gen 1 that it'd become an iconic monster for the series for decades to come. People bitch that charizard is shilled but the reason for that is because the design was a breakaway success from the beginning. The cool dragon works so it gets capitalized on, it's not complicated. Sadly this is the only truly great fire starter.

I understand what they were trying to do with this one, at least. Has a sort of folkloric, fairytale illustration quality. But it just doesn't work that well for a starter.
