>>39421668I feel like the overall aesthetic and atmosphere of Gen 1 was better and unironically had more soul. Nowadays I feel that Game Freak tries to be overly cute and child friendly to a point where it's so overbearing that even ten year olds see it as kiddyshit for 5 year olds. There's no cool/awesome factor anymore. I started with gen 3 because my parents wouldn't allow me to have video games as a kid but I do think that they really hit the mark with the first game and have gotten progressively worse maybe not at a mechanical gameplay level but definitely with the overall feel of the franchise.
