>>53308533The biggest points PLA has over SV imo:
1) Rolling (and out-of-battle threats) - any game is improved by adding a rolling mechanic. Having actual reasons to need to roll is also a bonus.
2) Battle mechanics - I really liked the priority manipulating mechanics. It needs a lot of tinkering to make it more balanced, and also needs to add abilities, but it was much more engaging than normal pokemon battles and makes boss pokemon a lot more interesting than just HP sponges with boosted stats by giving them semi-scripted priority during some turns of the battle.
3) out of battle capturing is so much more fun.
4) say what you will about Alpha pokemon, the added aspect of horror/stealth during the early stages of the game (because alphas are overleveled at that point) added a lot to the immersion and world building, and also added a fun goal/challenge for max-size collectors.
5) player character customization. I don't like the old japanese style but at least we could change our shirts.
What PLA did worse than SV:
1) smaller world, also not truly open (I like open worlds), shorter game overall.
2) not enough trainer battles
3) pokedex missions are retarded in PLA
4) Character writing
5) new pokemon designs. At least I liked some of the designs of SV. With PLA, I didn't like ANY of them. Still mad about Ursaluna.
What both did bad:
1) almost no challenge (though the final boss of PLA was great and should be the golden standard of pokemon bosses)
2) overworld boss battles (only exist in PLA) were terrible, even if they were a step in the right direction.
3) almost no content after the main story is done.
I would actually be fine with gamefreak shifting it's focus to the PLA formula, hope we get an announcement about a new legends game tommorow!
