>>51183063The problem is Pokemon and the Pokemon world are too cartoony to work in 3D. That Detective Pikachu proved that you can't always add more detail/depth/etc. and expect the design to still look good. It's the same reason all 3D anime models look like shit or have to completely abandon the anime aesthetic to work.
It works as sprites and 2D animation because your brain registers it as abstraction. Once you scale up the detail, you enter uncanny valley territory where your brain wants to interpret it as a realistic creature but is stuck seeing a simplified cartoon design. What you end up with is something that looks like a parade float.
This is why 3D will always be shit. You either have shitty plastic 3D models or you have to change the art so drastically that it stops being Pokemon.
