Scribbles are grass, circles are unpassable trees, that thing on the lower-left is a hill with some stairs going up it, the crosses are water, the squares are beaches/sand, dots are fences, and single-diagonal-hatching is a pathway or bridge.
I was thinking the route could have a couple of farmhouses along the way. One of them could be a small ranch (like the one pictured here), and another could be a cane field (to give an excuse to throw in tall grass). But maybe the cane-field farm should be on the route between "Wide Bay-Burnett" and "Cairns".
