You know, it just recently dawned on me that many of the NPC trainers are "weak" because the Pokemon they typically use are a lot weaker than starter Pokemon. So being a trainer that has an arsenal of Ratatta and it's ilk or Zubat, it would be much harder to actually have a competent.
Of course, I'm aware of Nuzlocke playthroughs, but this isn't like that. So, I'd like to add an arbitrary difficulty to my playthroughs and restrict myself from using my starter, as soon as I catch another Pokemon. And also to avoid using legendaries or "unique" Pokemon like Lucario or Metagross, and generally only use Pokemon that can readily be found in the wild. Any other suggestions to further make my trainer more or less equivalent to an NPC trainer? I suggest that I shouldn't use any TMs on them since the NPC trainers never do, but that wouldn't be as much fun. I want a reason to teach my Raticate Bubblebeam or to teach my Kecleon Solarbeam.
So what do you guys think? Any other suggestions for this?
