The popular game "Pocket Monsters" has captivated people not only in Japan but in the entire world.
The Mikasa Museum researcher that came up with this exhibition is one of such.
We feel there's a connection between the pokemon collecting, the trading, the pokedex filling of our childhood that we be became intimate and the current research work here in the museum.
This exhibition is the result of the painstaking work of the Mikasa Museum and multiple national museum facilities assembled.
Observing the living being that live in each respective world, and comparing them, we went into detail into the theme of the "FOSSILS" that exist in both our world and the world of Pocket Monsters.
It'll make us happy if we spread interest in both the ancient world and pokemon.
"Pokemon Fossil Exhibition" comitee
Everything started with a single mail that got to our company.
The sender was the researcher at Mikasa Museum Daisuke Aiba.
As soon as he came up with the concrete image of an exhibition that he wanted to bring together the experiences kids have while finding the "FOSSIL pokemon" in the game and the real experience of finding real fossils as a researcher, he contacted us.
The idea that came from someone who played the pokemon games an wanting to investigate pokemon as living beings, moved us.
At first a small team was working on this but then, people from different museums throghout the country and many illustrators joined in growing this into a big project.
This exhibition is about teaching about old lifeforms throgout pokemon.
If some day the kids coming to this exhibition become paleontologists and discover new fossils, it will also spell a bright future for "pokemon".
