>>22328110If they had time and didn't rush it they could have made it so your first playthrough, you were playing as the character from the originals, then on your New Game + you played as a new kid, who you could customize like in XY and your Rival AND OR Champion was the previous character from the Oringals you played as in your first go around.
When you caught up with them and fought them, they were an older version like Cythias age; a nice thing to see a "what if" on how they could look like when they got older. Also the previous pokemon you used would be what you had to fight against; giving incentive to create a really hard team to beat with IV training ect.
