>>45379332I'll give you a few major issues that I see with the design.
>ColorationWhile Pokemon can and have pulled off dramatic recolorings upon evolution, Rhyperior's attempt just comes off as plain old ugly. The vibrant orange on dark browns and grays does not an appealing design make.
>De-edgificationRhydon isn't completely innocent of this, but Rhyperior loses its acute angles almost completely. Its claws are blunted, its spikes almost entirely removed, its body even more rotund. Adding spikes to make something cool is a trope for a reason.
>Superfluous Tail ClubWhen people criticize megas for being overdesigned, I tend to think its things like this. The tail club is completely superfluous. Where Rhydon had a long and powerful tail, Rhyperior's is possessing of a huge club which Rhyperior, with its rotund build and short, thin tail - dragging on the ground no less - couldn't possibly make use of (and doesn't in any of its animations). So why give Rhyperior a thick tail club? Because a normal tail would "look plain." Hence the additional detail without purpose.
Those are three of my biggest problems with the design.
