Good-ish news. I lucked out and caught a Caterpie on Route 2. I distinctly remember good memories with Butterfree, it's one of the few pokemon that "retired" instead of dying.
That, and between Flame Wheel Rattata and Butterfree I should crush Cilan. That means I can forfeit the mandatory Pansear and go for a Dreamyard catch. A lot of these pokemon are overpowered or have Teleport so it's risky but I'm willing to take it.
