Monochromatic run: play through only using pokemon of a specific color as dictated by the pokedex. If a pokemon of your dedicated color evolves from one of another dex color you must obtain the evolved form without letting the dex info from the unevolved pokemon into your dex. So if you're doing say, a purple run, you could use a Meinshao, but you wouldn't be able to even catch a Meinfoo. Monochromatic really opens you up to new friends you never thought you would make, especially when collecting compatible HM users. Slaves are allowed only if no pokemon of your color are capable of learning the necessary HMs at your current place and are needed to progress. They are not allowed to battle and as such should be discarded as soon as pokemon of you dedicated color capable of learning the HM moves are realistically obtainable.
