I mean a lot of these features were clearly never meant to be long running staples of the series, shit like the underground or the pokeathlon showed up for like one game. I've never really understood why it is gamefreak feels the need to put random gimmick minigames into every single pokemon game other than that it makes the world seem slightly more alive - but even then, most of the minigames aren't actually particularly fun.

these things being cut doesn't bother me since most of them haven't been long lasting anyway, essentially
now why following pokemon hasn't been in every fucking game since hgss is beyond me
