There's a reason the game sold the best, has the most critically acclaimed score of any Pokemon game, etc.
It was also the only Pokemon game released for the Gameboy Advance/SP. It stands alone, it's a beautiful installment of the Pokemon franchise with some very powerful nostalgia embedded into the game for me personally.
That being said, I played through Gen I and Gen II in their entirety, and Gen III still manages to this day to be the only game I will go back and play through.
I'm actually fairly certain that this board had a legitimate poll on people's favorite game, if not more than one, and that Gen III has ranked at the top subsequently. These kind of threads glorifying its existence. (Which is entirely warranted.) Just attract trolls that can't appreciate its greatness.
