>>48198349It's become my viewpoint that every gen of Pokemon does at least one thing better than every other. SM/USUM I would say have the best characters and character writing of the series. Lusamine in particular as an abusive mother come off as way too real, I have to wonder if one of the writers has some trauma from home.
Unfortunately that's not why I enjoy the games, because it most other ways I think it's a bad game. Forced dialogue at the end of every street and map markers destroy the sense of adventure/exploration. Not to mention how nu-3D Pokemon games have such confining and linear route design. Ride Pokemon mean you don't travel with your own Pokemon, so the whole series of islands comes off as a theme park, rather than wilderness that you explore.
The tropical nature of the region itself is pretty comfy though, and while I don't care for most of the Pokemon in this gen, I like the box legends and Ultra Beasts a lot. The little bean islands were nice too, I always enjoy farming Berries.
And the region has some absolutely delicious women
