I said I'd do it, so here it is. I'm doing a review of all Ground type Pokemon, both new additions and returning mons who survived the purge. I'm a monotype player myself, but I hope this review is useful to anyone considering their options for a Ground Pokemon on their team, and want to know what's changed.
First, let's get it out of the way: as you may have heard elsewhere already, there are no stat buffs to any Ground Pokemon this generation. Changes to upgrade or downgrade or sidegrade the Ground roster are done entirely through the movepools. Hence we'll be dealing with that throughout the review. As bit of a silver lining to the shitstorm that is about to take place, I will note that most of the moves have been cleaned up substantially this gen. Redundant egg moves are gone, and preevolution-only moves have been done away with, which is a blessing to mons like Flygon and Mamoswine. Several changes to extant movepools and abilities benefit some of the Ground species. These include:
-Rapid Spin, which has been upgraded from 20 to 50 bp and now boosts speed by +1
-Teleport now provides de-prioritized switches as first seen in Let's Go Pee.
-Inner Focus and Own Tempo now allow the user to ignore Intimidate.
There. That's the good news. I hope you're ready for this.
