The difference between it and the Japanese writing system are literally worlds apart. They somehow eventually figure out that each letter represents a sound and can only read what are romanized japanese words but English should be beyond them because its impossible to learn grammar and vocabulary or even how some words are pronounced if you don't understand the sentence.

That's not a Japanese word. Is it a title, a name, a form of greeting? How are you suppose to know that you don't pronounce the i in friend.
