It's possible that he had African ancestry, but the "snail shell curls" argument really isn't a strong argument for Buddha having African ancestry. He is said to descend from the Ikshvaku dynasty and "Ikshu" or sugar cane was first domesticated in New Guinea and Taiwan, so perhaps you can even argue for Austronesian ancestry too.
