I wanted to be excited for this game so bad. An open world main series Pokémon title is all I ever wanted, and when we saw the first trailer I was pleasantly surprised with what it had to show. Sure, it looked a little rough around the edges, but they still had time to fix it.
Fast forward 8 months and now I'm considering skipping a main series Pokémon game for the second time in my life (first was BDSP). Considering I've been a piratefag since LGPE, that says a lot.
I've typed out my concerns with this game a thousand times, so I'll just bullet point them to make it easier to read.
>Over the top character designs. Can we just get a couple normal looking humans to balance it out? I get that they have to be memorable but characters can have a simple design and still be memorable.
>Over casualisation. The Let's Go! feature looks pretty nice, and cuts a lot of the time wasted grinding away, but I can't trust GAME FREAK to balance it properly. I really dislike that they made trainer battles optional now too. It's doesn't feel like an RPG anymore, just a story telling sim with Pokémon in it.
>Terrible graphics. This doesn't need explaining. I'm not asking for it to look like a masterpiece, but just look at the new Zelda game and compare it to this. How?! I just don't understand how every Switch Pokémon game has looked WORSE than its predescessor. Also, the colours are horrendous.
>Lack of postgame/locked behind paid DLC. Shouldn't come as a surprise, but their ignorance to this subject hurts, when they know full well why the older titles are so beloved.
>High quality animations. The Miraidon jumping animation is just rotating the model on a sine curve then snapping back to the ground with no fluid animation. And the trainer running animation is very linear and goofy, and there is no turning animation, the model just snaps to the direction you turn. Compare to PLA which had the player drift a little when stopping and turn around with full animations.
