>>51786233It's far too easy to get caught up in the logistics of how mainline settings work. In an effort to establish working structures that answer how trainers, the league, gyms, and other vital mechanical bits work, story often ends up coming second as a priority. Too often do these tiny details end up mattering far too much in the worldbuilding process, taking emphasis off of the importance of a compelling storyline and satisfying character arcs. That isn't to say that it cannot be done altogether, but there are many more pitfalls that come when you try to answer how things are supposed to work. Often times stories become a mode to showcase these ideas than to tell an actual story.
PMD has this issue, as all settings do, but to a far lesser extent. Here the structure of how the setting operates is nebulous at best, giving the most room for improvement and storytelling. There are towns, and guilds, and rescue teams, and mystery dungeons, and almost everything else is up to personal extrapolation. There's no need to worry about how civilization works because there's hardly one in place to begin with.
