They likely get loaded packs and boxes directly from TPCi. And for the casual person who opens, it's all just a numbers game unless you have horseshoes up your ass. I know a person who is constantly pulling alt arts and has naturally completed multiple sets through pulls alone. I asked them how long it took to complete Brilliant Stars for them, they said 1400 packs. And they're still opening more packs despite finishing it already. I've never seen the extent of this person's collection, but I don't even think they have anything prior to 2020.
Regardless, singles is the way to go. Packs are fun, and I won't deny that. But I actually get more enjoyment from getting exactly what I want and having it.
