The reason it takes more memory is because it has to que the server less, making the game run smoother. It's basic programming.
Think of it like this:
Every 4 weeks you get a $400 lump sum, but each week you get $150.
or
Every 4 weeks you get an $800 lump sum, but each week you get $50.
Either way you get $1000 you just get your chunks differently.
Now yes, some sort of organization would be fucking awesome, like boxes in the real games, but that would require Niantic to stop dilating and actually work, so kiss that dream goodbye.
