>>37289778The problem isnt so much the total number of ugly mons, its the ratio of bad to good. Gen 5 has one of the highest ugly mon counts, but I actually find the majority of Gen 5 designs to be passable or great, and it also introduced more Pokemon than other gens so it will have a higher total of uglies.
Gen 6 was mostly a good gen as far as design, but there was just so little of it, Id rather have seen 5 more new Pokemon that were ugly and gotten 3/4 more new ones that were good as well.
Gen 7 doesn't have the highest ugly mon count, but it either has the worst ugly to good mon ratio or second worst (DP might be worse I didnt do the numbers). That isnt actually the main issue with Gen 7 as far as design actually. Gen 7 has THE WORST case of a really good looking likable Pokemon evolving -into- a shitty design. Having ugly mons is one thing, it happens every gen, people just move past them and the few that love them love them. Having over 50% of your well-designed first evo mons evolve into crappily designed mons brings a special kind of pain and disappointment that couldnt exist if you just had some ugly Pokemon lines. Usually the other gens have had a pattern of an ugly or boring 1st evo becoming something cool which redeems the line.
