The pokemon series has not made any significant innovations since gen 1. That's why it's regarded as the best. If you prefer to judge the games on purely technological improvements then Gen 8 would be the best. Any other position is an arbitrary line in the sand usually influenced entirely by the time period in one's life that they played the games. Only people born before 1990 can judge video games on an objective level.
