Pokemon was doing better and precisely with X&Y has only been getting worse.
Even if it weren't for the lazy remakes, lacking postgames or shitty business practices, Gen 7 and 8 show that they barely have an understanding of what people want out of a Pokemon game; exploration and thanks to Sw/Sh even the act of collecting are a shell of their former selfs. Nobody wants to be railroaded through a corridor or hear the unskippable story of an NPC who runs on the same template as his predecessors.
