>Shit like the Sinnoh legends, the Reshiram/Zekrom plotline These absolutely could still be a part of the franchise if Sinnoh was just a part of a broader place called Japan and Unova was a part of a broader place called America. Sure, those nations would be different from how we understand them, but the original anon's point was that the ability to compare and contrast those differences provides useful context for understanding the Pokemon World.
With that said, here's my problem with your stance. As it stands, the current system of taking a place and calling it a region without any further elaboration does little for the cohesiveness of the world. It just makes you wonder what country or place these "regions" are a part of, or if the word region supposedly refers to a nation in and of itself. It's not good and one of the most promising things about PLA is that it may finally clarify how the societal structure of the Pokemon World breaks down even a little bit.
So far, Galar is the only region that seems like it is a nation in and of itself. What would be nice, what would really bring things home, is if they clarified if it was a part of a country, or the country in and of itself. Presently, they're just doing a sort of half-assed dance around the issue. They really need to release some sort of documentation explaining where everything we've seen thus far even is and what the broader spaces around those places are called.
