I shouldn't have to explain out of game usefulness, but in-game, his role can be the same if you want. Otherwise Payback and Foul Play work very nicely if you're not a dumbfuck. Wish, Toxic, Healbell, Curse, the list goes on man. He's really fun to use in battles regardless if NPC or player. He's saved my ass countless times in OU and even Ubers. Personally, I never have a team without him.
