I do think it died out for several reasons, but Amour was definitely one that progressed it further. It just fills a really similar niche to Advance, but Serena actually has canonical feelings.
If you're also wondering though, Advance does have some pretty slick moments, but they're "subtle" I guess. I like how Ash comes in immediately after that screencap you posted to give her Ice Cream. I thought it was a nice gesture, almost trying to take her attention away from Drew haha.
