Ash was already a minor character as far as Pokemon goes. Now that he's not even part of the anime anymore, even more kids will grow up not knowing who he is.
In just a year or two, there will be people appearing on the internet unironically asking "Who's Ash?", because they genuinely won't know. He's a nobody.
