Was this the pinnacle of Pokemon?
>Platinum: Appropriately, took the lump of coal that was D/P and turned them into a diamond. Polished as all hell, one of the best metagames of the series. Possibly the best postgame of any game in the series.
>HG/SS: Not only a perfect remake, but also beautiful as all hell, likely the prettiest game in the series: see Ecruteak City. The perfect user interface with the bottom screen and toggle boots. Many neat little features.
>B/W: Divisive, but my personal favorite games in the series. More new Pokemon introduced than ever before. ONLY able to use new Pokemon, giving longtime fans a breath of fresh air- felt like playing R/B all over again. Some of the best singular locations in the series, though strung together poorly. Focus on plot and the older main characters made it feel quite unique from the past games.
>B2/W2: Similarly beautiful and polished to Platinum. The best Regional Dex in the series. Phenomenal postgame. PWT made it feel like it could have been the last game in the series and ended the whole thing on a high note. The first direct sequel set in the same region, and done quite well.
And then came X/Y and ORAS. Mind you, I don't dislike any Pokemon main series game. I think they're all good. But some are much better than others, and I'd argue that these four sets of games from Gens 4 and 5 represent Pokemon at its best. So what the hell went wrong with the jump to Gen 6?
