Since the Switch though they've been gaining momentum again, and this time its not a sudden jump but a steady growth. Pokemon Go in 2016 gave them incredible momentum, but that's the only Pokemon related release that is directly tied to their growth. If you mean tanking in terms of quality, that's obviously subjective and I won't argue you're wrong. That said, Iwata's decisions (one of which was to make a big move into the mobile market in 2015) is part of the company's return to dominance. He helped Nintendo in terms of longevity and the overall growth of the gaming industry.
