I dont think sword and shield are a result of laziness or contempt. The game genuinely feels unfinished. Like theres moments where it feels like a lot of passion went into the game (the gyms), and everything else is fairly standard pokemon quality up until you get to the 6th gym and then suddenly everything feels incredibly bare bones. It's a sudden shift, which makes me feel like they just flat out ran out of time.
I'm guessing it started as a 3ds game and they had to shift platforms halfway through and it fucked a lot of stuff up?
