You can make things just as good as things used to be if you put forth the right effort, but it gets such a negative reputation because it allows lazy people to get away with being lazy more easily. The bare minimum effort in flash goes further than putting that same amount of effort into something hand-drawn, so it attracts people (and companies) who don't want to give more than the bare minimum, either out of laziness or wanting more profit margins.
