Only reason I didn't start earlier than Crystal is because I was literally 9 with no income and my parents didn't believe I'd actually still be into pokemon long enough to be worth the expense when it first came out, especially since we already had a decent computer for games. They gave in when I was still obsessed even when all my friends moved on.
