Why are Pokemon secondaries so obsessed with the series being more "mature"?
I've played these games since Red and Blue released when I was a kid and there's so much that could have been done and could currently be done better, but why is it that for so many people, there's specifically a desire for the series to be more mature?
What's more, it's almost always accompanied by praising Colosseum. Which tells me it's not about gameplay, it's about story and tone presumably. Recent events only exacerbated this because the success of something that in no small part, has seen success because of the viral nature of giving cute magical creatures guns and in the wake of it I've seen even MORE praising of Colosseums tone.
But I don't get it. I don't look at Pokemon and think "I want it to be more mature" and I never have. For sure, I want it to experiment and try new things - but why the obsession with "darker" subjects so much? Not to mention that games like Gen 5 and 7 DO explore some mildly darker subjects.
