That's why Mega Rayy almost never uses its Dragon type STAB, because it's retarded to do so when you've got stronger secondary STAB (Hurricane for the flying ones, Earthquake for the ground ones, Hydreigon has perfect coverage anyways).
Not to mention that both strong Dragon moves have severe drawbacks. Most strong Dragons were the ones with insane coverage. It was their only saving grace, especially Garchomp. Great statspread, great coverage, and great stat total made up for their mediocre type.
Also, someone forgot fucking Ferrothorn and Scizor slapping the shit out of Outrage spam in Gen 5, which was overshadowed by weather, quite a lot in fact.
In a lot of ways, Ghost and Dragon types are similar. Especially now where there is only 1 type that resists Ghost type, and any Ghost that gets a Fairy type attack has perfect neutral coverage. There are plenty of Ghosts with strong STAB attacks, or even a moderately strong one like Shadow Ball, that very rarely ever see the light of day. Dragons suffer from all of the same problems Ghosts do, where their strongest STAB moves all have draw backs, and the only other option are base 80 power moves.
