I've been more or less doing dungeons as quick as I can (which isn't to say very quickly, I rival Ampharos in world's worst direction sense for finding the damn stairs), no grinding, and am level 12 currently if that's any comparison to your playthrough.
I find it near suicide to do the 'mash a' tactic that served well in the previous titles, so making use of alliances to get around typing disadvantages and carrying extra elixirs is critical.
