>>23152503In all honesty, you never had any intentions to drive Grashglik to the point of literally being psychologically broken from the inside, it just sort-of happened. That, and you were much more of an unlikable jerk back in those days.
"Er.. I'm kinda bad with due dates--"
"Clearly."
The you of today has matured well since those rebel days, if that same scenario had happened today, chances are you would have returned that book on time, and you would have been nice about it. Sure there might be a Russian cutaway gag or two thrown in to fill time, bu at least no one's worldview would have been pushed to oblivion and beyond.
"..I-I never apologized either, did I?"
Things might have been different if you had made the choice to follow the path of the protagonist earlier than intended. It's too late now, but it's also too late to stop looking back at the past. The pieces are still here, they just need to be put back together. It doesn't have to end like this, the fact that he hasn't teleported behind you and stabbed you through the chest proves it.
"I have the memory of an Indian Elephant, you know," the droid reminds you, "I have no recollection of an attempt made at mending any wounds and salted ties. Part of me thinks it's too late, anyway, the damage is done."
>What do you do?A) Apologize.
B) Don't apologize.
