Skill Link and the whole Shell Smash+Icicle Spear is probably the closest thing to a modern update they got, nothing too fancy
I don't remember the exact origins of Turbann, not sure if it was meant to be a separate Pokemon altogether that was cut and retconed into being Shellder or a later attempt at making the Shellder on Slowpoke/Slowbro into its own Pokemon. I've seen a few people say it's the former but I don't remember if there were any source. I'd believe it though considering how visually different they are
personally I'm sad Shellder didn't get a new regional form alongside Galarian Slowpoke. it's even worse when Shellder always had potential for a new form with Slowbro's dex entries mentioning Shellder's poison
