I'm thinking rural central Appalachia. Wooded hills, moonshine, and coal mines.
You could have redneck and hillbilly Gym leaders and trainers, and have the atmosphere be quaint and hick, like The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, The Andy Griffith Show, Dukes of Hazzard, etc.
