You see back then we didn't have internet or any of the official guidebooks so we pretty much were in the dark when it comes to what the games offered. I was just waling around route 214 and notice that a new path suddenly appeared, I told my cousin to check it out but he didn't have the path (he still didn't beat the elite four) I literally waited for him to finish so that we explored the area at the same time.
We discovered Turnback cave and had a lot of laughs exploring it, noticing that it was a damn maze. We didn't expect much though as we probably thought it was just a high level area with some new items to pick up....until I stumbled into the last floor.
I remember myself screaming out of shock at the sight of Giratina, I saved the game like a thousand times out of fear that the DS could've frozen or something while my cousin was trying to find the damn room desperately so that we can fight the satan monster at the same time (again we didn't know jackshit about the pokemon at the time so before the battle we called it that)
We both started the battle and Giratina pretty much toyed with us as we didn't have a good team at the moment (we were literally leveling up some pokemon) and it went for hours trying to capture it, until we got him.
It still remains my favorite pokemon memory because of how impactful it was for me and my cousin, discovering Giratina out of the blue with no knowledge of it's existence, and on top of that with how crazy it's design is, we were excited as hell and scared.
Funny thing is on that same month something similar happened but with Heatran.
