OP you should take this chance to try out other JRPGs. I used to be like you where Pokemon was the biggest release of the year for me and it was great and perfect, but after Gen 6...then Gen 7, and now this I've just been burned too many times and am playing new games that I had I overlooked in the past to play Pokemon.
Don't support Gamefreak. I ADORE Pokemon and always will but Gamefreak is just the worst and doesn't deserve our money, skip these games or get them used and try out other JRPGs like Bravely Default, Xenoblade, Yokai Watch, whatever. The thought of skipping a Pokemon game used to be unbearable but now I've skipped USUM, LGPE and can totally skip SnS. Pokemon is such an expansive franchise that you can still enjoy the new generation without having to buy the games.
