It is absolutely inferior to Emerald as a Hoenn game, as well as inferior to HGSS as a remake. It is also definitely half-assed and rushed out, and the devs have admitted they only got one year of dev time to make it.
I think the games could have turned out great if they gave the devs two full years, but they didn't, and we got tons of cut corners as a result.
