Mass Effect 2 didn't hold /v/ hostage for 9 months because it was that good, it was just a game that let you romance aliens was rare and the whole you have "choices" was still being explored. The nearly 2 years after Skyrim's release being a hot topic of debate to the point of derailing threads wasn't so much it's quality as it was being medieval Minecraft.
That's the thing to think about here, when was the last game that came out that did something truly novel? That you can't find 10+ other games throughout time that did the same thing? It's any wonder games can be talk about here for a moth's time because everything is just want came before but with a different paint job.
