The 3ds era is the culmination of all of Gamefreak's shitty practices really. Making low quality titles to push new features? check. Making the exact same fucking game? check. Purposefully cutting content? check. NOT going all in on the few new things they do add? also check. I started with Gen 4 so I admit that I'm a bit biased, but the DS era of pokemon was by far the best. Plenty of post-game content, lots of replayability, a good difficulty curve (for what can be expected of pokemon), and plenty of variety to build your team with. Platinum, HGSS, and BW/2 will always be the best games in the series, and with how incompetent (or scummy, the interpretation is yours) Gamefreak has been lately, I kinda hope they don't try to do a sinnoh remake, at least until they get their shit together.
The switch games will either be a second golden age if Nintendo forces them to get their shit together, or it will be the last nail in the coffin when they try to charge 60$ for something really only worth 30$ at most.
