Drayano focuses on making every pokemon more or less viable to be on the same level of the broken OU mons in vanilla. Altered emerald just goes ballistic with changes, to the point you don't even know what the fuck is going on.
For example, Ledian is a rattled+electro ball abuser. You read it right. And it works.
Even pokemons that were completely fine got some ridicolous changes.
And yet: the game manages to stay balanced and fun from start to end.
Also every route got changed, the region exploration is improved and feels fresh.
It's one of my favourite hacks. With a simple concept and a solid execution.
