Blew my mind when I was younger because it had all pokemon up to gen 3 in one FireRed ROM, which I hadn't seen before up until that point. You join Team Rocket or some shit and I think it's a little edgy, but it fits the era it was made in. It's made by the same guy that made Giratina Strikes Back (or whichever one got removed).
Maybe Aquamarine as well, even though it's not really old? It's kinda furry shit considering you start as either a Mew or Shiny Mew, also has some fakemon if you like/don't like that. Creator tries to hype up the story as some epic and complex plot with deep themes but it's literally just a rearranged Kanto story lmao.
You could also go for the Ruby Destiny series, but Life of Guardians I don't think is very fun, I heard Rescue Rangers was shit, and personally Reign of Legends is one of my personal favorites but it's kinda shite and I really only like it for nostalgia. The one with the angel Fakemon at the end if you catch all legendaries.
