And that's that
Pretty average-below average game
There were some good highs, but there were some really low lows imo. The dev definitely got better as he went, which is good, but the earlier regions were really rough at points.
Most of the routes were either really boring or slightly annoying, but there's games out there with much worse maps. The amount of trainers on each map felt annoying sometimes, but they usually only have ~3 mons, so it wasn't TOO bad.
The music was really repetitive, to the point where I basically turned it off for basically everything but the leagues after Hoenn.
Having every town in a region share the same music was dumb, and all the trainers sharing the same music was even worse. I get that the trainer music is tied to the trainer class, but you really need to just make duplicate classes or something so that the player doesn't have to listen to the gen 4 trainer theme literally the whole game.
Not to mention the amount of important trainers just not having unique themes. The dev already separated the audio from the game download, he really should've went the extra mile and put in themes for most of the unique trainers.
Overall, I think a 4-5/10 is a pretty good score. I think it tickles the anime nostalgia decently well for the casual anime fans, but the diehard autists will probably not like it too much because of how much gets glossed over/removed entirely.
Though I will admit, fitting all of this in one Essentials game is really impressive, even if it's not really implemented well.
