3rd gen has been my favorite for a while, yeah I know water trumpets blahblahblah. It's mostly nostalgia goggles as I got really into the 3rd gen ROM hacking scene for several years and it was some good times and met some good people. Anywhoooo
A friend and I recently decided to play through Leaf Green and Emerald respectively, with him playing LG and me with Emerald. We decided that since we own all of the 3rd gen games we would try to finally complete the Pokedex together and raise teams that the other picked for us.
We both picked Pokemon for eachother that can't be caught in the respective regions. Big mistake.
Apparently, GameFreak was really anal about what they'll let you play through the game with and won't let you have any Pokemon from outside games until you've completed the game and gotten the national dex. Okay, so we have an Action Replay. If we can't do it legit we'll just cheat our teams so we don't have to wait til post game to catch our favorite mons. Right?
WRONG. Apparently Nintendo is so anti cheating that the game will completely shit itself if its tampered with at all. TM case corrupts, berry pouch corrupts, nicknames of Pokemon corrupt, the list goes on and on. So, in every 3rd gen game except Ruby and Sapphire, you cannot be creative with your team or raise anything the game doesn't tell you you can. Fire Red, Leaf Green, Colosseum, XD and Emerald are all EXTREMELY RESTRICTIVE. Why is this? Why the hell would they do this? Why don't they want people to have fun if they're not playing the game THE RIGHT WAY? This shit is why everyone should hate 3rd gen, not the region or the music or the shitty mon design. This is a huge fatal flaw that makes completing the Pokedex this gen a pain in the ass. No other gen is as anal about how you play.
